The countdown to the 2013 Kula Festival has begun and this year’s event is filled with exciting new features. Be sure to tell your friends and neighbors.

Children’s Zone: Sallie Kuykendall is overseeing Supervised Kids’ Play. For $10, kids 5 and up get a wristband, entitling them to all day games and bouncy castle. Food for purchase will be available in the kid zone, as well as a concession area for kids’ games and toys. Free face painting, too!
Speaking of games, this year will be our first for the “Hole in One Challenge” golf tournament. Look for the signs to lead you to it. It will be held down the hill in front of the rectory and you can enter as often as you like. All in good fun with prizes.
Admission: $1 per person (kids 10 and under are free). This will help us get an accurate headcount, while raising even more funds for our two charities, A Cup of Cold Water and Malama Family Recovery Center. Enough to help us donate to two charities this year.  Our charities are A Cup of Cold Water, with a van bringing needed items of food, clothing and support to our community and the Malama Family Recovery Center providing outreach and early intervention, working with pregnant women who are at risk for substance abuse. Both of these worthy organizations will be featured at the festival and will have booths to promote their programs.
Auction: Paul Janes-Brown is looking to bring back the live auction as well as expand the silent auction.  Paul is looking for auction items as we speak. If you need someone to pick up an item, call the church to arrange it. Gift baskets will now be available at the auction.
Free Farmer’s Market: Right as you enter the festival, you’ll see a “free zone” where you can buy plants and flowers from Gary Mohrlang, as well as lots of produce from our upcountry farmers. Stuff sells out early!

2013 Entertainers (with tentative times) include: George Kahumoku Jr. and Joel Katz (1pm), the Uluwehi Guerrero Choir (10:15am), Upcountry Celtics (11:15am), Isle of Maui Pipe Band (9am), Tatyana Shapiro-Leiste (12:15pm), Side Tracks (9:15am), Soul Kitchen (3:15pm), Christy Fell (3pm) and don’t miss the Cake Walks. Our emcee will be Eric Molina from Manao Radio.
