Children & Youth
Aloha and welcome to St. John’s Episcopal Church!
At St. John’s our priority is to support and nurture the spiritual well-being of the children and youth, and families! We are called by God to support, nurture, and empower their future in the Church!
St. John’s provides a variety of thoughtful and inviting programs/events for your child, youth, and family.
Our Sunday School program caters for children Preschool age to 5th Grade. Then we have our inventive and engaging Youth Formation Program for tweens/teens.
Our families also can come together to celebrate and have some fun at our Fall Picnic and Christmas Movie Night.
If you have questions or there are other ways we can support and encourage your family, please contact Julia Golding, Children, Youth and Family Ministry Coordinator, via email: kulaformation@gmail.com. You and your family are always in our prayers!
Youth
Young people are not only the future of the church, but they are also a vital part of its present-day life. The St. John’s Episcopal Church Youth Group brings together tweens and teenagers for fun activities and fellowship.
Our time spent together in youth groups is all about relationships – with each other and with God. We’ll share stories, play games, build friendships, and grow in our faith together through stories, videos and discussions, and put our faith into action through service projects.
We meet about once a month to share in fun and fellowship with a variety of activities. A calendar of events for 2021 is listed below. All activities are free unless otherwise indicated.
For information on youth meetings, how to get involved, or general inquiries contact the church office @ 808-878-1485.
Sunday School
At St. John’s our priority is to support and nurture the spiritual well-being of the children and youth, and families! We are called by God to support, nurture, and empower their future in the Church! Sunday School is available for children 3 years old through 5th grade.
When Sunday School Occurs
St. John’s Sunday School meets during the academic school-year during the 9:30am service. Children begin Sunday School after the procession at the beginning of the service and process to worship during the "exchange of peace" in our service. Sunday School students join their families for the celebration of Holy Eucharist.
Our Curriculum
St. John’s utilizes Weaving God's Promises as the foundation of our Sunday School curriculum. Weaving God’s Promises is a comprehensive, three-year Christian education curriculum for children developed and written exclusively for the Episcopal Church. It is a program with a shared scope and sequence as well as common Episcopal content.
The "Mission" of Weaving God's Promises:
To teach children how God’s promises of salvation are woven into our lives.
To teach children the way of Christ, not only in the church but also in the world as Christ’s ambassadors.
To give children a solid grounding for future youth and high-school formation programs, which prepares them for Christian adulthood.
To foster the spiritual formation and growth of our children in Christ’s love and mercy and to teach the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation.
Each Sunday Session is designed to offer each teacher and classroom to a wide variety of effective and classroom-tested lesson plans and activities.
Through our Sunday School program, St. John’s hope and vision is that each child entrusted to our care:
Grows to love God--God the creator, God--the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
Learns the sacred stories of the Christian faith.
Explores the deeper questions of life and faith and demonstrates a willingness to be inquisitive, ask questions, and seek out answers.
Respects the beauty and diversity of God's people and the many faith traditions, theologies, and philosophies of thought throughout God's creation.
Develops their own spiritual identity nurtured in the Word and Sacrament of the Church.
